Waldorf Astoria
Waldorf Astoria's Seychelles debut on Platte Island, a private coral cay ringed by white sand far south of Mahé, reached by a small plane over open ocean. Fifty seafront villas with roofs shaped like the shell of the hawksbill turtle, a turquoise lagoon on every side, and beaches where sea turtles still come ashore to nest.
The experience
Our collaboration with Waldorf Astoria Platte Island felt like arriving at the edge of the map. The island is a single ring of white sand around green, and from the moment the plane circled the lagoon we knew this project would be special. We photographed villas whose sculpted roofs echo the shell of the hawksbill turtle, walked beaches set aside for nesting sea turtles, and ended our days under skies with no other light for miles. What moved us most was how deeply the team cares for the island itself; nearly everything here runs on the sun. It is the kind of place that stays with you long after you leave.
